The intensive Teacher Institute immerses you in American history while staying in Williamsburg, the restored capital city of eighteenth-century Virginia. During the Institute, you will learn techniques to actively engage your students in a complete and diverse history that helps them see themselves in the story of our shared past. Throughout the session, you will work with Colonial Williamsburg staff and interpreters, analyze primary sources, and engage with people from the past.

The Institute provides teachers:

  • Primary source-centered, standards-based historical content
  • An inclusive approach to analyzing and teaching events of the past
  • Innovative, engaging teaching strategies to bring history to life in the classroom
  • Immersive experiences throughout the Historic Area with suggested classroom applications
  • Collaborative idea sharing with fellow teachers and Colonial Williamsburg staff
  • Classroom-ready instructional resources, including lesson plans, primary sources, and other media
