While our primary mission is historical preservation, we also engage in various community-focused initiatives.
Below are some ways in which the Ohio Dames get involved with our community:
-
Historical Preservation and Education: We work on preserving historical sites, documents, and artifacts that are important to American history, particularly those related to the American Revolution and the Founding Fathers. We sponsor educational programs, history tours, and scholarships to promote a deeper understanding of the nation's origins.
-
Community Service Projects: Members participate in local community service projects. This includes volunteering with charitable organizations, supporting veterans, and organizing events for local schools and libraries that promote American history and patriotism.
-
Supporting Veterans and Military Families: See our section on how we are involved in recording audible history from some of our veterans.
-
Scholarships and Awards: We offer scholarships for students, particularly those pursuing studies in American history, political science, or related fields as well as supporting teachers that teach history.
-
Patriotic Events and Ceremonies: The American Dames often organize and participate in patriotic events like Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day ceremonies. These events might include parades, wreath-laying ceremonies, or educational events meant to engage the public in the history of the United States. We annually take a small contingency to local naturalization ceremonies in our community to pass uot American Flags and support our new citizens.
-
Networking and Fellowship: The organization also provides a platform for women who are interested in history and community service to network and form lifelong friendships. This aspect of fellowship often leads to more community-based projects and collaborations, helping to strengthen local communities.
